New Living Room Furniture--

Hi there! It's been a long time since I last blogged, things have been very busy here, with exciting changes in the air! I have been working on a few big projects that are getting close to being complete, and I am excited to share them soon. My illness last year put me behind on a lot of things and I feel like I am finally catching up on all the things I have been wanting to do. It's a very good feeling. Back in January, we purchased some new living room furniture. Our old sofa, loveseat, and chair were 9 years old and were starting to show it! Investing in new large pieces of furniture you use on a daily basis is a big commitment. I thought carefully about what I wanted, and what would work best looks wise, and functionality wise. For years I have loved tufted sofas, and really had my heart set on getting one, but I also needed one that would be comfortable for my family, since this would be for our daily living area. We looked at many furniture stores, and I was very discouraged at the selection out there, to be honest. Everything pretty was not comfortable, and the comfy was not pretty. I love Chesterfield sofas, and we did find one at Macys that I loved, but soon discovered that the low backs on Chesterfield sofas do not work for my husband to lean back on.

So the search was on for a comfy tufted sofa with a higher back. Thankfully, the last store we went to had a set  of tufted sofas that greeted us as we came in the door.  They were a dark green, but I knew I could order them in a different fabric, so that is what I did. I ended up choosing a light, textured gray fabric that would be durable, easy to clean, and not show marks easily. Yet, it still has a light appearance. After five months I have to say I am very happy with my choice, they have held up very well and the fabric still looks great! I was very tired of straightening and washing my old white slipcovers, so I have really been enjoying having sofas that looks nice all of the time with no fuss!

Another piece we purchased from the same furniture store was this gorgeous map of England and Wales. I like personal pieces with meaning, and this one has that for me. As a child, I lived in England for four years, and some of my most favorite childhood memories are from there. I have a goal of returning there with my children for a visit, and this map is a reminder of that.

I also painted my side tables that were once black with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Paris Grey. To achieve this look, I used two coats of Paris Grey, sanded edges and accents,  clear waxed, and used dark wax in the detailing and creases. I also replaced the wood knobs for glass knobs from Anthropologie.

I also painted our coffee table that was originally a medium wood, with Annie Sloan Chalk paint in Pure White. I lightly sanded and used her clear wax for a protective finish. I am really loving the lightened look!

The only thing I am not loving is the current area rug. The pattern on it turned out much lighter than it looked online and I was wanting more of a contrast, so I am on the hunt for a new one. I will update when I find a new rug.

The fresh floral clippings are from my mother's large viburnum bushes in her yard. They are one of my favorite flowers and I wish they bloomed year round!

For our chair, my husband agreed to no recliner (WHAT A RELIEF!) and to find a comfy chair with a foot rest. My daughter calls it the Starbucks chair since it reminds her of the arm chairs you see in coffee shops. I chose a light tan fabric to keep things neutral and leave more possibilities open to color change and patterns with my accents.

Thanks for stopping by to see the changes in our living room! I will post the other half of the room when it is finished soon, we got rid of our old giant TV armoire and found a new piece I am excited to share!  I will leave a list of resources below.
